Organisers of the event prearranged a friendly match between the men and the women challengers of this tournament. Men and women played a welcoming yet fearsome Battle of the Sexes. The rapid match was given a time limit of 10 minutes for all the moves plus an increment of 5 seconds a move.
This friendly match saw the women ruling the night and winning by 2-0, with a third game that was played at 10+0 and then played and won by the Men.
THE MEN’S TEAM: comprised of Captain Nigel Short, Simen Agdestein, Richard Rapport, Robin Van Kampen, Wei Yi, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Surya Ganguly, Daniil Dubov and Odin Blik Vea.
THE WOMEN’S TEAM included Captain Victorija Cmilyte, Irina Krush, Thanh Trang Hoang, Tania Sachdev, Jovana Vojinovic, Elisabeth Paehtz, Guo Qi and Natalia Zhukova.
Stuart Conquest, Ring master, and director of this tournament, took the night together in a casual and stress-free manner which has become synonymous with this tournament. Additionally the event was unique in its own style and it was so much appreciated by those participating. The night of 1st February 2014 became all the more interesting with the presence of Miss Glamour 2013, Tessa Britto, from Gibraltar.
Furthermore, the event was graced with the presence of organiser Brian Callaghan who was joined by his wife and family as well as many of the sponsors and personalities including: James Humphreys from Tradewise, Pepe Canilla from Canillas, Joe Hernandez from the GSLA, Tim Bristow from Gibtelecom and Jorge Leiria from Casais.
Stuart Conquest said that it was a fantastic event and like previous years this year also Battle of Sexes has become the highlight of the tournament. He plans to arrange such event next year too as such events make the tournaments so special.
