Khanty-Mansiysk, Ugra hosting FIDE Grand Prix stage

FIDE Grand Prix, fourth stage of women has officially started from 8th April, 2014 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Ugra. 12 chess players representing 8 countries of the world are seem to participate in the competition that will take place until the 21st of April.

Women Grand Prix is a series of six tournaments and the tournament uses round robin system. The time control devised for each player is 90 minutes for 40 moves, and then 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds will also get increment after each move.

 

The women FIDE Grand Prix started with the welcome address of the Director of Physical Culture and Sports Department of Ugra Evgeniy Redkin who wished everyone an interesting tournament. He wished that the stage in Khanty-Mansiysk would help every player to score more points in the overall standings and fight for the main prize of FIDE Grand Prix.

 

The Grand Prix tournament will be followed by FIDE Women’s World Rapid and Blitz Championships. According to the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov Khanty-Mansiysk is considered to be the chess Mecca.  The president says that each participant will not only be interested in playing in the tournament, but will also have opportunity to visit all the tourist sights of the city.

 

To make the FIDE tournament all the more interesting, a concert was also held, where the main character was an exclusive musical instrument – an organ, it was organized for the participants and guests of the tournament.

 

The Head of Khanty-Mansiyks, President of Ugra Chess Federation Vasily Filipenko said. “Today I welcome the best women chess players of the planet in the capital of Ugra. In the words of a famous poet, a woman can stop a galloping horse, and the participants of the tournament can even capture a knight. I wish everyone success and beautiful games.”
