The 29th National Chess Championship of Pakistan is the second leading event of the year after the 4th National Women Chess Championship which was also held at Lahore from 28th to 30th March, 2014.
Pakistan National Championship is held with an aim to select the Pakistan Chess Team which will take part in 41st World Chess Olympiads at Tromso to be held at Norway in August 2014, under the auspices of World Chess Federation. The Chess Federation of Pakistan thus will be played under the strict guidelines of World Chess Federation (FIDE).
Ten top players from the regions of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be entitled to take part next to the teams of Wapda, Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Railways, and Higher Education Commission. National Chess Champion and International Master Mahmood Ahmad Lodhi is considered to be the favourite player and a strong challenger. National Championship is a 11 rounds Swiss league event with a time control of 130 minutes plus a 30 seconds increment from move one.
Open entry fee is Rs. 3000 and however, number of open entries is limited and shall be served on the basis of first come first serve. Priority shall be given to those who have already made online registration (They are advised to make payment not later than 15th April). Open entries shall be confirmed only after the payment through bank transfer.
There are certain steps that would allow the crowd to get into the challenge. In addition to that, registration can be done easily by making online registration. Last date of registration is 23rd April. The event is expected to be a huge success and will surely attract a large group of players.
