The Sicilian Defense is one of the most important chess openings in theory which begins with the moves 1. e4 c5. You may wander why...
Chess opening is, approximately, the first 10 moves of a chess game. The main purpose of the opening is to develop our pieces, to prepare them, to make them ready for the attack.
In the initial position the pieces are blocked by the pawns. Thus, they are not ready to attack and checkmate the enemy monarch.
The Main Purpose!
In order to develop our pieces we need to move a few pawns, the central pawns “e” and “d”, because most pieces cannot go over them. The techniques and deviations, the different ways, of moving the pawns and pieces at the beginning of the game are called opening systems.
There are too many different names for openings. Some of them are very well known, such as the fools mate, while others are quite funny and odd like the hippopotamus opening.
